Stamford Web Design has just installed a nice little tool on the site called Snap Shots that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, IMDb profiles and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, MP3s, photos, stock charts and more.

Sometimes Snap Shots bring you the information you need, without your having to leave the site, while other times it lets you "look ahead," before deciding if you want to follow a link or not.

Should you decide this is not for you, just click the Options icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and opt-out.

Google Moon went live back in July 2005 with relatively low resolution images of our closest neighbour. In conjunction with today's news about Google backing private moon landings through the Google Lunar X PRIZE, a new version of Google Moon has been released.

Gmail Now Public Beta, Open To All
Google Operating System reports that Google has opened up Gmail for anyone to sign up for a Gmail account. Some history of how getting into Gmail has evolved, below:

When Gmail originally launched on April 1, 2004, it was entirely an invite-only service. You could only get an account if someone you knew already had one and sent you an invitation. At one point, Gmail invites were even selling on eBay for well over $250 a pop.

In the middle of 2005, the system opened more widely, when Google allowed anyone in the US to get an invite by having an invitation code sent via SMS to their mobile phone.

It now appears to be officially a public beta, which means you don't need a Gmail invite or SMS code to gain access to your own Gmail account.

Google Image Labeler Addictive
Google released this thing known as Google Image Labeler, it basically pins user vs. user to label images from Google images. The way you score points is if you both label the image with the same label.

How does it work?

You'll be randomly paired with a partner who's online and using the feature. Over a 90-second period, you and your partner will be shown the same set of images and asked to provide as many labels as possible to describe each image you see. When your label matches your partner's label, you'll earn some points and move on to the next image until time runs out. After time expires, you can explore the images you've seen and the websites where those images were found. And we'll show you the points you've earned throughout the session.

Google has a nice little MP3 player

Google Notebook
Search is all about finding the answers you need. Unfortunately, some kinds of questions--like where you should stay and what you should do on your Hawaiian vacation, or what kind of digital camera you should buy, or what the latest treatments for arthritis are--can't always be answered in one sitting, or by visiting one site.
That's why Google built Google Notebook--to give you an online "notebook" where you can organize all your research, add personal notes to it, and share it with others. Google Notebook surfs along quietly with you as you browse, letting you clip and annotate whatever text, images, and links that help answer your question, all without ever leaving the webpage you're on.

.eu did you?
Did you get your .eu domain name? We did!

Since the first-come-first-served launch of .eu on Friday 7th April, there have been over ONE MILLION domain names registered in this new European domain space. These registrations are in addition to the over 300,000 domain names that were submitted by trademark and other rights holders during the sunrise process.

At current registration rates, .eu will therefore pass .biz to become the seventh largest domain space worldwide (after .com, de, .net, .co.uk, .org and .info), sometime later today.

This level of registrations is completely unprecedented in the history of the domain name system and demonstrates just how much demand has been building up for the .eu domain space since it's introduction was first proposed by the European Commission some five years ago. To put this into context, .eu has reached in just three days a level of registrations that took the USA's .us domain space four years and China's .cn space three years to reach.
